Mental Telepathy, Does it exist?
Mental telepathy is loosely defined as the ability for two people to communicate over a distance without the use of verbal or visual communication. The distance can be as short of sitting across a table from each other or as far as being on the opposite side of the world. The important part however is that it is done without verbal or visual communication.
There have been millions of recorded cases of people having a type of communication that would seem to comply with the definition listed above for mental telepathy. If fact, even a large number of people who say they do not believe mental telepathy exists, can give you examples of instances they have experiences that appear to fit the definition.
Many people have experienced a sudden "knowing" that a loved one was dead or injured. This happens more often with mothers dealing with their children, but it is quiet common for men to know about their wives, children to know about their parents, and friends or co-worker to know about another friend or co-worker. Yet sadly, even with the thousands upon thousands of cases, no one can 100% prove that mental telepathy actual exists.
The problem arises because before the scientific community will accept mental telepathy as being real, science must be able to reproduce results under scientifically control situations and to date, that has not been done.
In mind mind, the question then becomes "why are the results non-reproducible"? I have a theory on that question. I personally believe it is because the testing procedures they are using are not capable of reproducing the results.
The standard way of testing for mental telepathic abilities is to have one test subject mentally "send" an image of a design to another test subject who will hopefully "receive" the image and make note of the result.
The problem with this method of testing is that it is missing one very important key ingredient, emotion. You see in almost all instances where mental telepathy has taken place has involved some sort of strong emotion. A mother knows here child is hurt, a wife knows her husband has had a heart attack, a grown child knows their parent has just died. How do you reproduce these situations.
It is not easy for anyone to get emotional over whether a card is a circle or a square and I believe at our current state of evolution, mental telepathy needs that emotional push behind it to make it work.
Testing that involves the sending of emotions would probably show better results than simply using images, for most people, it is hard to feel some emotions without meaning it. For instance, if you are not actually angry at a person, it is hard to send anger at them and we certainly would not expect another to actually hurt themselves repeatedly so they could test whether their receive could pick it up.
There is another factor too. It appears that in the vast majority of cases where mental telepathy has taken place, the two subject involved where either very close friends or actually related.
In fact, mental telepathy between two complete strangers or simply slight acquaintances is virtually unheard of. In scientific testing, if they could use relatives they might get better results, but it is often very hard to get relatives to spend the required amount of time to practice on a regular basis.
So we may be at an impasse on the subject of mental telepathy until the human brain can evolve a little further and we no longer need strong emotion or an emotional or blood relationship behind the thoughts.
There are simply too many cases in which mental telepathy appears to be the only possible explanation to say that it does not exist, but we can not give science the reproducible results it demands, so for now, there will be those of us that believe and those that do not, and we just have to agree to disagree on the subject.
